American Philosophical Society (APS) APS maintains six grant or fellowship programs in a wide range of fields ranging from $1,000-$40,000
Fulbright Scholar Program The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), the scholar division of the Institute of International Education (IIE), is well known for its expertise and extensive experience in conducting international exchange programs for scholars and university administrators. For nearly seventy years, CIES (www.cies.org) has administered the Fulbright Scholar Program, the United States flagship academic exchange effort, on behalf of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). CIES was founded as a non profit organization in 1947 by four prestigious academic associations – the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Social Science Research Council (SSRC), and American Council on Education (ACE). Since 1996, CIES has been a division of the Institute of International Education (IIE), a premier nonprofit educational and cultural exchange organization established in 1919. The four academic societies (ACLS, NAS, SSRC, and ACE) that founded CIES continue to be represented on the CIES Advisory Board.
grants.gov The Grants.gov program management office was established, in 2002, as a part of the President's Management Agenda. Managed by the Department of Health and Human Services, Grants.gov is an E-Government initiative operating under the governance of the Office of Management and Budget. Under the President's Management Agenda, the office was chartered to deliver a system that provides a centralized location for grant seekers to find and apply for federal funding opportunities. Today, the Grants.gov system houses information on over 1,000 grant programs and vets grant applications for federal grant-making agencies.
H-Net Funding Announcements An international consortium of scholars and teachers, H-Net creates and coordinates Internet networks with the common objective of advancing teaching and research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) Awards scholarships and research fellowships to graduate students, as well as funding to graduate students and untenured faculty for career-enhacing activities.
National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) Established by Congress in 1965, the NEA is the independent federal agency whose funding and support gives Americans the opportunity to participate in the arts, exercise their imaginations, and develop their creative capacities. Through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector, the NEA supports arts learning, affirms and celebrates America’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, and extends its work to promote equal access to the arts in every community across America. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts and the agency is celebrating this milestone with events and activities through 2016. National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is an independent federal agency created in 1965. It is one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States. Because democracy demands wisdom, NEH serves and strengthens our republic by promoting excellence in the humanities and conveying the lessons of history to all Americans. The Endowment accomplishes this mission by awarding grants for top-rated proposals examined by panels of independent, external reviewers. NEH grants typically go to cultural institutions, such as museums, archives, libraries, colleges, universities, public television, and radio stations, and to individual scholars. The grants: strengthen teaching and learning in schools and colleges facilitate research and original scholarship provide opportunities for lifelong learning preserve and provide access to cultural and educational resources strengthen the institutional base of the humanities

National Science Foundation (NSF) The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense..." NSF is vital because we support basic research and people to create knowledge that transforms the future. This type of support: Is a primary driver of the U.S. economy. Enhances the nation's security. Advances knowledge to sustain global leadership. With an annual budget of $7.5 billion (FY 2016), we are the funding source for approximately 24 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing

U.S. Department of Education ED offers three kinds of grants: Discretionary grants: awarded using a competitive process. Student loans or grants: to help students attend college. Formula grants: uses formulas determined by Congress and has no application process.
Spencer Foundation - Small Research Grants The Small Research Grants program aims to support smaller scale or pilot research projects that have budgets of $50,000 or less. Proposals are encouraged from scholars across a variety of disciplines in an effort to fund field-initiated education research.

Faculty Small Grant Application

Applications for Faculty Development Small Grants are due by March/November 15. Application forms are available on the portal (Faculty and Staff, Faculty/Staff Resources), and should be sent to Linda Ryan (lryan@sjcny.edu) electronically.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

The maximum grant will be $750
All reports and RFDs with receipts must be submitted to the VPAA's office within 6 weeks of the event.

All faculty who are involved in research or are working on book projects are encouraged to apply for small grants, up to $750, to support projects in the area of faculty development. The program is intended for projects not ordinarily covered by the department budget. Possibilities include, but are not limited to:

attendance at workshops for the purpose of presenting research (ordinarily, support for conferences is provided when the faculty member is presenting a paper or participating in some way);
or publication costs,
travel,
or purchases of special materials.

A committee (consisting of the Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and the Chairperson or representative of the Committee on Promotion and Awards) reviews the proposals each semester. Prior to submission, the application must be reviewed and endorsed by the Department Chairperson, and where applicable, by the Associate Chairperson.
